Purple Urkle gained popularity in Northern California in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was the first “takeover” strain in the region and the origin of most modern “exotics” that dominate today’s market (such as Zkittlez, Gelato, and Runtz). There were many popular renames/offshoots/hybrids of Urkle, (such as Lavender, GDP, Hardball, Princess Purple, Grape Ape, Purple Nepal, Jolly Rancher to name a few), all of which had the same/similar distinctive aroma and flavor as Urkle. Skunky at a distance and sweet up close, with notes of grapes/berry, purple flowers, mango sap, and hash/incense, the flavor when smoked coats the palate and sticks in the throat well after exhale. It’s a slow growing, low yield, short and squat indica dominant plant, likely with highland Afghanistan origins, that produces small, dense grape shaped nugs that turn purple late in flower. The nugs have an unusually soft plant matter which contributes to its luxurious, silky smoke. The deeply relaxing medicinal effects are great for relieving body pain, anxiety, boosting appetite and as a sleep aid. Purple Urkle has made a huge impact on the evolution of modern cannabis. Due to being lower yield and difficult to grow, it’s not a commercially viable cash cropper. Combine that with the rarity of this now 25+ year old cultivar, it’s rare to find a dialed batch. If you are lucky enough to come across a good example, you’re in for a treat.
Indica Dominant Hybrid - 70% Indica / 30% Sativa

Started to feel it ,not even on my 2nd hit. Be sure to have you a snack ready & waiting. 🤭🤭🤭
I smoked the Purple Urkle a few years ago, grown pretty damn well by a guy in Tahoe. I remember that it didn't give me any euphoric lifted feeling, but it was a true medical shutdown vibe, which is perfect for someone dealing with chemo or radiation therapy. I stood on the stoop of my apartment building and listened to this central American guy in his late 50s tell me about his time as a hired gun for Noriega, Escobar and Reagan. "Is declassified now so I can say" is what he told me, before following up with, "Even now my wife tell me that we are just waiting to be killed by the government..." My point is that this guy is nuts, knocks on my bedroom window at 2am for weed etc, but on Purple Urkle (and a tall boy of Ice House) I just didn't care what kind of life he lead, but I was fully focused and listening, which is why I can still vividly remember it a few years later. I didn't enjoy the the high Purple Urkle gave me, but I could easily appreciate it's value for someone that needs to medically veg out, while still being able to function and pay attention.
heres a review, purple urkle isnt from the 80's at all its a literal less than 10 years of being out, Also Grand daddy purple isnt made from purple urkle. this bullshit, site isnt credible beware. Another thing "family matters" show itself wasnt aired until 1989 so Urkle wasnt even a thing until the 90's also proving me right. Also GDP which is what its mixed with "Granddaddy Purple, aka Grand Daddy Purple, GDP, or Grand Daddy Purps, is an indica-dominant hybrid that took the west coast by storm when it was first created in 2003. It looks and tastes exactly like you'd expect: dark purple premium flower with a sweet grape flavor and aroma." Keep lying clowns
I think it's medical-grade chronic, for me it helps all my conditions, it doesn't bring paranoia like others. It does kill pain better than other kinds of weed.
Purple Urkle is great. This bud is really cool looking with a hint of dark purple along with orange hairs and covered in crystals. It smells like grape and tastes like grape. A very smooth and relaxing indica high. Perfect for chilling out. One of my favorite strains!
Great strain for insomnia and loss of appetite. Really potent and heavy hitting you only need a couple hits to get the effect. The body high is very tingly.
i found JUST what i was lookin for with purple urkle n bye gdp. this taste like grape juice and smells like it too. dark purplish nugs with orange hairs, soft, breaks down nice. smells so good i wanna eat this nug :)
It's almost like the perfect "Indica" stereotype... just a couple tokes in and the munchies start bubbling up (to be fair I was already hungry af), my senses of taste, scent and sound seemed to become more acute; I my whole body feels relaxed and I am skyrocketed into chill mode. I wouldn't call this a super social strain, unless it's the kind of homie you can sit around and not talk to or be doing your own thing with each other, you know the vibe. I would agree that weekend daytime and weekday nighttime are the ideal times to smoke this guy. There's not any cotton mouth which is rare for me and I love that, my eyelids have that weird hot, heavy feeling that probably means I look stoned. And of course I have to shout out my favourite grower I've come across in Seattle, the cultivator of these very nugs I smoke upon: WA Grower! He's sittin' at a pretty 22.3% THC-A, and a soft light moss green colour, caked with trichomes and clusters of darker orange hairs... and all this to say this was one helluva smoke and I am one happy custosmoker :•)
This is my all time pick of all Indicas I have had I had a good nite sleep . 😴
